Ansel Adams continues to reward collectors. New York City, June 6, 2006 The April/May 2006 photography auctions demonstrated that the photography market continues to grow in both an upward and outward trajectory. The April sales began at Sotheby’s that, in the course of the day, sold 89% of the lots offered for a total of $6,297,500. The biggest surprise of that morning was the sale of Ansel Adams’ Surf Sequence, a 1940 work comprised of five 11 x14 inch silver gelatin prints that Adams designed to be viewed together. The lot sold for $352,000!
